I saw these recently in a magazine. I thought they were very
classy and decided to make my own in PSP. Have you ever
loaned out a book and worried about it being returned to you?
Have you ever borrowed a book and been unable to remember who
you borrowed it from? These book plates are a great
way to label your books. They make a fabulous gift
for a teacher or a "book worm" friend as well.

These are very simple to make so I decided to make this a text only tutorial. If you have problems please do not hesitate to e-mail me. *smile*.You will need very few supplies. You can download a zip file of the tree, acorn and feather tubes HERE. Dings would make great decorations, and of course I am sure you have lots of ideas of your own as well....

1) Open a new image with a white background sized 280 by 185 pixels. I am assuming you use a setting of 72 dpi. If you decide to use a higher dpi to get a better print quality,I would suggest at least 100 dpi. For the ones I made for printing and not to show online I used a setting of 100 dpi and sized 320 by 225 pixels.
2) Add a new raster layer. Chose the "oaktree" tube. Set the scale to about 40%and place the tree in the center of the image.
3) Add a new layer. Chose the text tool, set the color to black. For the text on mine I used Bradley Hand ITC sized at 18. Type in "From the library of" and place the text in the center and near the top of your image.
4) Add another layer. Chose the text tool again and type in your name, or the name of the person you are doing the plates for. You may chose to simply do a line here and sign your name.
5) Add a raster layer. Chose the "little acorn" tube.Set scale to 65%. Put one acorn on the right side of your name or name line. Add another layer. Place another acorn on the canvas. Go up to "Image" and "mirror" and place this acorn on the left of your name.
6) Merge layers. I added a border of 2 pixels in black, then one of 3 in white and one more in black at 2 again. And it is done.
I suggest printing these on a good quality paper. I strongly recommend using a good quality archival glue so that the pages in the books don't get ruined. You can buy some good glue at places that sell memory book supplies. You could also size them to fit on label sheets for an even easier way to print them off. Here are a couple more plates I made. As you can see there are lots of ways to decorate these. Play, have fun !
